If you’re a woman in Nigeria (Heck, if you’re a person in Nigeria), you’ve probably heard of Zaron cosmetics- the amazing indigenous make-up brand that’s dominating the faces of Nigerian women all over the country. From their mascara to their signature red lipstick, Zaron has placed its feet firmly in the Nigerian beauty market, However, you might not have heard about Oke Maduewesi, the amazing entrepreneur behind Zaron who’s story is one resilience, strength and a determination to succeed.
She is a graduate of Edo State University, Ekpoma where she studied Economics. She worked as a manager at Zenith bank and lived in Port Harcourt up until the death of her husband in 2006, when she had a toddler and was pregnant with her second child. She then went on to obtain a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University Of Leeds and established Zaron (named after her daughters Zara and Ona) in 2011. Zaron today has over 26 outlets across Nigeria as well as in Ghana, The U.K and the U.S.A.
She is also heavily involved in widows’ empowerment and is a champion for womens’ entrepreneurship. For all this and more, we celebrate her as our Women Appreciation Wednesday.
