Recently, I was watching a video by FKA Twigs (check her out if you haven’t). It was an aesthetically pleasing and soulful offering that’s probably one of her most popular songs.
There were thousands of comments, but one stuck out to me. The comment basically said that she was weird in her own way but so beautiful.
If you follow FKA Twigs, you’d know that she’s not really like anyone else out there. From her look at her sound, it’s all her own. The same with Lord, or Lana Del Rey or Beyoncé.
Everyone is different and ‘odd’ in their own way, and it can be argued that our oddness is what defines us. Your oddness isn’t like anyone else’s oddness and should be embraced.
Now, it understandable that a lot of people try their best to avoid seeming weird, but there are a lot of great ways to embrace your own quirkiness.
The first step is to remind yourself that your quirkiness makes you beautiful and unique. There are many people (famous and non-famous) that are loved for their quirkiness because they own it and embrace it to the fullest.
Also, it’s best to surround yourself with people who recognize and appreciate your quirkiness. Many people feel unsure about their quirkiness because people around them either make them feel insecure about it or don’t see the beauty in it.
The third and most important step is to own in unapologetically. If you’re a tech geek, own it and let it shine. If you’re bohemian, be bohemian with pride.
All in all, be you and be proud of it.
