After the Golden Globes, the internet went crazy with the idea that Oprah should run for president in 2020. The media mogul and Wrinkle In Time star has denied any intentions to do so – until now. In this week’s issue of People she reveals the one thing that would actually make her run.
“I went into prayer [after the Golden Globes],” she said in the magazine’s cover story. “‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that.”
Okay, so all she needs is some divine intervention. Should be no problem, right? Nbd! Just the word of God! She went on to explain that she had no idea that when she accepted the Cecile B. DeMille award, the reaction to her speech would be so huge.
“When I walked off with Reese [Witherspoon], I thought, ‘I got that done,’ ” she said. “It wasn’t until I was back in the press room that they said, ‘Do you realize you’re trending?’”
Since the show, Oprah said some of the people she’s closest to have encouraged her to run. Her best friend Gayle King told her to think seriously about the opportunity. She even had billionaires approach her, saying they’d be willing to fundraise for her and run her campaign. “That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’” she said.
