We find that a whole lot of women are doing more these days. Establishing businesses, getting jobs in top organizations, catering to the home, becoming financial gurus and much more. What an exciting time for a woman to be alive.

In recent times, especially since the advent of feminism, women have felt the need to impress men and show them that yes, they can be mothers, wives, business owners and all of that. They do this in a bid to show that a woman has unending strength and can be whatever she wants to be.

But come to think of this: are you doing all of these for the right reasons or are you trying to prove a point to your male colleagues or perhaps, spouse? Are you fulfilling your dreams for you or for society?

When you go to sleep at night, is it your dreams and excitement at accomplishing them that keeps you thrilled or the thought of conquering that man who said you cannot keep a home and have a career?

Yes, it is good to make your dreams valid but can women take things a little bit more slowly. Can they breathe and stop reveling in the unnecessary need to prove a point to their male counterparts? Yes, we, modern women can be much more but we can live and be happy while at it.

Because, believe me in the long run, it is not who you impressed by staying strong or starting a business. It is not about that person you wanted to prove how tough you are to. It is about you. Your happiness. Your peace. Your wellness. Being a feminist does not mean you need to push yourself more than your limit all to impress the male gender. In fact, you should be doing the opposite.

You know, the only relationships that work well in the long run are the ones that make you a better person without changing you into someone other than yourself, and without preventing you from outgrowing the person you used to be.

Ignore the comparisons and expectations knocking at your door.  The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.  Prove yourself to yourself, not others. The right people for you will love you for doing so, and they will appreciate all the things about you that the wrong people are intimidated by.

Bottom line: Don’t change so a man can accept or  respect you; be patient, keep being your amazing self, and pretty soon, the right people will love the real you.

And if perhaps you were not enjoying your femininity before, you should start now. Dear modern woman, you can be so much more without boxing yourself in.
